"Brain Vacation" and "peace and light" generated at ACE Inspire Academy

60 minutes into moving, meditating, and breathing, 13 sleepy teachers lay in savasana, just 14 days prior to hundreds of students filling the halls. "What did you get from this practice?" I asked them. Here's what they said:

"A brain vacation"
"Peace and light"
"Exercise"
"Relief"

As a former schoolteacher, the weeks leading up to the first day are notoriously filled with anxiety, anticipation, and that ever-weighing feeling that there is no such thing as being ready for your students. And yet, on a Friday afternoon, after a week of professional development sessions and the big day looming, these teachers were able to enter this state.

Then, I asked them something unconventional, considering the two-week countdown to students: "What do you see as possible by the end of next year?"

This is what they said:

Stamina
Positive culture and positive attitudes
Empowerment
